Seville at Lent Time

Spring blooms in Seville during Lent Time. It is the most fabulous time of the year to travel to this city. The weather is warm, the sky is bright blue and the smell of orange tree blossoms make a walk through the streets of Seville city centre an unforgettable experience.

The weeks previous to the Holly Week different Cults take place in the Old Churches of Seville. The Statues that will be carried during the Processions in the Holly Week are prepared by the members of each Brotherhood. The Statues wear their best robes and are surrounded by fresh flowers.
This special days Sevillians make their own “Tapas Tours” while they walk from a Church to another. Bodeguita Antonio Romero (Antonia Diaz Street near the Bullring) and Taberna Coloniales (San Pedro Square) are my favourite restaurants to have Tapas. They both are in the centre of the city and they are specialized in Andalusian typical dishes and wines.

LOEWE: SPANISH CHIC IN THE WORLD

Loewe was founded by Enrique Loewe at central Madrid in 1846. At the beginning it was a small traditional shop of leather goods. The quality of the products made it famous amongst Spanish aristocracy and high society during Nineteenth Century.

In 1905 Loewe was awarded as Spanish Royal Family Supplier. From that date different members of the Family have worn clothes and complements of this exquisite firm. Princess Letizia uses to carry an Amazon handbag one of the mythical goods of the brand and she has been photographed carrying a Hood handbag one of the hippest ones.

Actually Loewe has shops in almost all the capitals in the world but the one at number 8 Gran Via Street in Madrid is a very special one. It opened its doors in 1939. It remains in the same traditional style it was conceived at the middle of the twentieth century.

From 1996 this brand is part of the LVMH Group but it is still highly linked to Spain.

THE PILGRIMAGE TO JAVIER CASTLE (JAVIERADA)

Each first Sunday of March thousands of people from all over Europe (specially from Navarra) get walking on pilgrimage to the Castle of Javier in Navarra. This pilgrimage is called Javierada. Depending on the place of beginning it could take from a couple of hours to three days.

Saint Francisco Javier was born there on 1506 April 7th. At the age of 19 he went to study to Sorbonne University, were he joined Saint Ignacio of Loyola to found The Company of Jesus.

He travelled to Evangelize America and Asia and died in China in 1552. Actually Saint Francisco Javier is the saint patron of Navarra and the Castle is high valued Navarra Heritage.

A SECRET IN THE HEART OF ANDALUSIA

There are many secrets to be discovered by those who travel to Andalusia, and one of them is Hotel Cortijo Fain. The hotel is centred around a 300 year old cobbled courtyard, and it joins history to modern comfort. Each of its ten suites has been individually designed by famous Spanish interior designer Jaime Parlade.

This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy Spanish warm welcome. During your stay you will be able to practice golf at its course or simply enjoy the views over the rolling countryside.

Cortijo Fain is placed near Arcos one of the famous White Villages in Cadiz. It is about 50 min away from Seville and 30 min from Jerez Airport.

TIENTA IN TOLEDO

Once in their life the cows that will be selected to be the mothers of future brave bulls are tested. These fights are called Tientas and during them the cow is not hurt and there is no blood. These Tientas are one of the principal tasks in rearing bulls. They are carried out to discover the character traits of the cows

We have designed an Experience called Tienta in Toledo. The travellers are privileged witnesses of the Tienta that takes place in the Estate in Toledo. There is a small plaza in order to carry out this task. While the bullfighter tests the cows the owner of the Estate and the bulls attends to his guests and explains them every detail of the work in process as well as the history and the anecdotes of his family. The owners have been breeding brave bulls for almost 100 years.
After the Tienta the travellers will have a typical Toledo lunch with the owners.

I travelled to the Estate and enjoyed a nice afternoon with Joaquin, the owner. I was so close to the bulls I could almost touch them. Although Joaquin told me it was secure I preferred not to get down from the car. The bulls are much more impressing when you are in contact with them in their environment.

SEGOVIA

Last weekend I visited Segovia with my sister Maria. It is a small city about 62 miles away from Madrid. Segovia has received all the official acknowledgements for its artistic richness and wealth of monuments, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

In the morning we visited the old town, full of palaces and Romanic Churches, the city walls and the aqueduct. It was built by Romans and it was used to take water into the city. We enjoyed ourselves by walking through narrow streets from Plaza Mayor to the Alcazar. It was an old Castilla Kings Palace and looking it from the bottom of the mountain it resembles a Walt Disney Fantasy. We had a break to have lunch at Meson de Candido, one of the most famous restaurants in Spain. It is specialised in cooking Roasted Baby Pork, the typical Segovian Meal. I do not really love meat that is why I can not give an independent opinion about the pork, but I loved the Punch Cake, the dessert. In the picture you can see both of us after our lunch.

After the visit to the city we travelled to La Granja, a small village 6 miles away from Segovia. Spanish Royal Family has enjoyed their holidays in the Palace of La Granja for centuries. It is also famous because of its Glass Factory. The visit of the Palace is amazing because it takes you to another time in History. There we gazed at the beautiful lamps made by La Granja glass artisans centuries ago.
The visit to Segovia is a must for those who travel to Spain and would like to know a bit more about its History.
